ARTIST STATEMENT

My name is Dorothy. I’ve done art ever since high school, and I like it. I find making art to be therapeutic whenever I am sick or hurt, and it cheers me up when I’m feeling grief. That’s why I make art. It’s a good and enjoyable activity to do.

I like nature and the outdoors. Some of my art is plein air paintings. I enjoy being able to do paintings of nature and scenery that I see while outdoors. It is relaxing and enjoyable to paint in nature.

I also paint psychedelic abstract paintings. I make those paintings by doing a paint pour of a variety of different colors on paper or canvas. I then sandwich two paint pours together to create the abstract swirling clouds of color. Those paintings are finished by using a small etching tool to scratch patterns into the paint.
